Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Center (KCMC)
KCMC is the referral and teaching hospital located in the foothills of Mt. Kilimanjaro in Northern Tanzania. It was established in 1971 and, with a capacity of about 640 beds, serves a catchment population of more than 15 million people from different regions within the country and beyond. In 2016, a fully functional emergency medicine department (EMD) was opened, and a year later, the hospital was privileged to have the first ever residency-trained emergency medicine (EM) physician.
The EMD made contacts with the EM Global founders and formed a collaboration in January 2018, which aimed at spearheading the spread of EM education among the staff at KCMC, especially regarding the use of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS). The collaboration has so far resulted in the sponsorship of one student, who is completing a Masters in EM at Muhimbili University in Dar es Salaam.
